Everything indicates that Bayer is to take over Monsanto after all - the 14th of September, both companies announced that the agreement would definitely be signed. The negotiations had lasted since the beginning of May. The bid of a German giant was rejected twice. Only the amount of 128 U.S. dollars per stock (66 billion U.S. dollars) turned out enticing to Monsanto's Board of Directors. The permission to effectuate the takeover still needs to be given by the shareholders of Monsanto and appropriate antitrust authorities. The transaction is anticipated to be completed in 2017.
The previous negotiation stages are available for reading about here.
