British researchers introduced the world's first sonic tractor beams that lift and move objects using soundwaves.

According to article published in Nature Communications, a special device using 64 perfectly coordinated miniature loudspeakers can generate the acoustic hologram without physical contact. This is enough to levitate spherical, expanded polystyrene beads of up to 4 millimeters in diameter. The research was conducted by scientists from Bristol and Sussex, in conjunction with Ultrahaptics, a spin-off set up by Sussex Professor of Informatics, Sriram Subramanian.
